Streamline and Consolidate Reporting:
A Stanion Electric Case Study

Challenge

Stanion Wholesale Electric Co. needed to manage and track product and safety training across 17 locations. Handling training at the branch level made it difficult to ensure consistency, and paper forms made tracking inefficient as the company grew.

Solution

Stanion worked with BlueVolt to streamline their training, ensuring consistency and allowing for easy tracking.

The Story

Stanion Wholesale Electric is an independent electrical products distributor headquartered in Pratt, Kansas, with 17 branches primarily throughout the state, as well as one in Missouri. According to John Keller, Vice President of Marketing, the company has relied on BlueVolt for approximately six years to effectively manage employee training.

Stanion has a 96.6% course completion rate average across 17 branches.

Prior to joining BlueVolt, Stanion had been managing training at the branch level. This led to difficulties with tracking and reporting training, as well as inconsistencies across branches.

“Before we started with BlueVolt, everything was done by the branches. It was not very consistent across the company,” Keller said.

To create a more streamlined approach, Stanion partnered with BlueVolt to streamline both product and safety training across branches. Using a single online training system, the company could centralize courses, track completion through transcripts, and document training activity in one place.

“Having BlueVolt’s ability to have transcripts and track things has helped us be able to stay on top of who’s gotten what trainings done, and when they did it, and how they were scored,” Keller said.

By centralizing training records and transcripts, Stanion gained the ability to track everything within a single system—even in-person training.

“We’re able input into the BlueVolt system that [in-person trainings] were done at the branch level, that the employees were trained on it, and the managers sign off [on it],” Keller said. “We have a place where it’s stored, and we can log in and take a look whenever we need to.”

Safety Training

On the safety side, the platform helped Stanion replace paperbased processes with a centralized online repository. Rather than collecting forms and storing them on individual computers, managers and corporate staff can now access training records in one shared location. This shift reduced paperwork, improved recordkeeping, and made safety documentation easier to manage across branches.

“It’s been handy to have an online place where everything is stored, instead of having the managers send in papers to file away,” Keller said.

Product Training

Product training saw similar gains. By moving product courses into one university, Stanion created a single destination where employees could complete required training and managers could review transcripts without repeated emails or manual followups. Corporate staff gained visibility into employee progress, while managers can keep track of completions in one place.

Stanion has an 81% course completion rate across 91 product training courses.

“No one has to email multiple times to try to find out what got done… It’s been a massive game changer. I mean, we never really had one spot where [records were] done. They like that it’s all in one spot and they can go in there and see everything,” Keller said.

Manager scorecards also include employee training, ensuring that managers push their employees to complete required training.

Today, approximately 80% of branch employees are completing the minimum required product training courses. While participation in safety training can be more difficult to track, especially in larger branches where employees spend less time on computers, the centralized system makes those records easier to locate and manage when needed.

Conclusion

By joining BlueVolt, Stanion ensured standard training across branches, as well as simplifying tracking and reporting procedures.

Looking ahead, Stanion plans to continue maintaining and refining its training library by adding new product courses, organizing content by category, and retiring outdated materials. The focus remains on keeping training relevant, easy to access, and consistent across every location.

“[BlueVolt] has been helpful for us and made it more efficient on both sides, the safety training and the product training,” Keller said.
